Vaginal Symptoms

Vaginal Dryness, Discomfort
& Pain During Sex.

Vaginal symptoms can affect daily comfort, relationships, and sexual activity. Some people hesitate to discuss them or are unsure which treatments are available. A conversation with a clinician can help you understand the possible causes and your options.

In the REVIVE survey of 3,046 postmenopausal women with vulvar and vaginal atrophy symptoms, participants described a range of concerns. These figures describe that survey population, not all women, and do not demonstrate a benefit from laser treatment.

55%

Vaginal Dryness

Reported dryness among the survey’s symptomatic participants.

44%

Pain During Sex

Reported painful intercourse, also called dyspareunia.

37%

Vaginal Irritation

Reported irritation associated with their symptoms.

59%

Effect on Sexual Enjoyment

Said their symptoms affected enjoyment of sex.

If symptoms are affecting you, you can ask for an evaluation even if you have had them for years.

The Procedure

What Is FemiLift?

FemiLift uses a fractional CO₂ laser to apply controlled energy to vaginal tissue. It is offered as an office procedure without surgical incisions. At Genesis Health, the procedure itself is approximately 10–15 minutes; the complete appointment includes assessment and aftercare discussion.

The underlying laser has FDA clearance for certain soft-tissue surgical uses. That clearance does not establish it as an approved treatment for vaginal dryness, menopausal symptoms, urinary incontinence, or sexual concerns. Studies have produced mixed findings, and current evidence does not establish reliable benefit for menopause-related vaginal symptoms.

Potential complications include burns, scarring, pain during intercourse, and persistent pain. Discomfort and recovery vary. A short appointment does not mean that the procedure is risk-free or requires no aftercare.

Our team reviews your symptoms, medical history, examination findings, previous treatments, and preferences. An evaluation may lead to a different treatment or a gynecology referral.

Evaluation

Evaluation for
Vaginal Symptoms.

Your assessment begins with your symptoms, history, medications, and an appropriate examination. These are central parts of diagnosing vaginal concerns.

Blood tests, swabs, or specialist referrals are selected when they could clarify a diagnosis or change treatment. A broad hormone, cortisol, nutrient, or gut panel is not automatically necessary for vaginal symptoms.

Menopause & Hormonal Changes

Lower estrogen around menopause can contribute to vaginal dryness and discomfort. Similar symptoms can occur after childbirth or during breastfeeding. We review the timing of your symptoms and discuss appropriate treatment options.

Vaginal Irritation & Microbiome Changes

The vaginal microbiome is different from the gut microbiome. Symptoms such as discharge, odor, itching, or irritation may need examination and testing for infection or other causes. A stool test does not diagnose the cause of vaginal symptoms.

Thyroid Symptoms & Testing

We review known thyroid conditions and symptoms that may warrant testing. TSH and additional tests such as free T4 are ordered when clinically indicated; an expanded thyroid panel is not required for everyone.

Stress, Pain & Sexual Comfort

Stress and persistent pain can affect sexual comfort and desire. We discuss these concerns alongside physical symptoms and may recommend coordination with a gynecologist, pelvic floor physical therapist, or other appropriate clinician.

Nutrition & Identified Deficiencies

Your diet, medical history, and relevant results help determine whether nutrient testing is useful. We address confirmed deficiencies as part of your general health care, without assuming they explain vaginal symptoms.

Skin Conditions & Autoimmune History

Persistent dryness, irritation, pain, or skin changes may need a gynecologic or dermatologic examination. Tell us about diagnosed autoimmune conditions and symptoms elsewhere in your body so we can consider the right evaluation.

Testing is selected to answer a clinical question. Your clinician explains what a test can show, its limitations, and how the result could affect care.

Who It’s For

Who Should Schedule
an Evaluation?

A consultation can help clarify symptoms and treatment options. Experiencing one of these concerns does not automatically make FemiLift appropriate.

Vaginal Changes After Childbirth

Discuss dryness, discomfort, healing concerns, or changes in sexual comfort. Your postpartum recovery and breastfeeding status are considered before treatment recommendations.

Perimenopause & Menopause Symptoms

Review vaginal dryness, burning, irritation, discomfort during sex, or urinary symptoms. Your clinician discusses established hormonal and nonhormonal options.

Persistent Discomfort or Treatment Questions

If symptoms continue despite moisturizers, lubricants, or prescribed treatment, review what you have tried and whether another assessment or specialist referral is needed.

Your Care

Gynecologic Evaluation
& Care at Genesis Health.

A careful history and examination are essential. Additional testing should answer a specific question; more testing alone does not establish better care.

A Gynecologic Assessment May Include

  • Your symptom history and previous treatments
  • A vulvar or vaginal examination when appropriate
  • Testing for infection or another suspected condition
  • Review of hormonal changes and current medications
  • Assessment of pain, urinary symptoms, or pelvic floor concerns
  • Discussion of established treatments and their risks
  • Referral for specialist care when needed

Your Genesis Health Consultation Includes

  • Time to explain your concerns and ask questions
  • Review of previous records and relevant results
  • Testing recommendations based on your clinical needs
  • Discussion of FemiLift’s experimental status for menopause-related symptoms
  • Comparison with established treatment alternatives
  • Review of costs, consent, and aftercare before a procedure
  • Follow-up to assess symptoms and treatment response

Some patients benefit from combining appropriate treatments. This does not mean that every laser, supplement, laboratory panel, or IV treatment has evidence for treating vaginal symptoms.
